The PF1000 PATHFINDER Digital Hot Metal Detector (HMD) Scanner utilizes the latest microprocessor technology to ensure precise reliable detection of hot metal or hot product.

Whereas older style HMD’s purely detect the hot metal or hot product above pre-set thresholds, the PF1000 PATHFINDER Digital Hot Metal Detector (HMD) Scanner operates by microprocessor comparison of the background and hot product signal. Neither static hot scale or steam in the field of view causes false triggering. Furthermore, lens contamination will not raise its trip level.

While static analog HMD’s utilize single diode detection and Rotary Scanners incorporate rotating mirrors, the PF1000 PATHFINDER Digital Hot Metal Detector (HMD) Scanner utilizes a digitally scanned InGaAs Diode Array. This new technology removes the maintenance associated with Rotary Scanners yet provides the high reliability and accuracy associated with Scanners.

Microprocessor technology provides exceptionally fast and accurate detection where wide variations of IR signal are present of the leading and trailing edge of Rod, Bar, Plate, Billet, Slab or Strip. Response times are digitally adjusted by locking timers. To assist in alignment, the product path is duplicated by an 10 LED Array Bar Display. Which is also used to indicate adjustments to precise values.

The PF1000 PATHFINDER Digital Hot Metal Detector (HMD) Scanner's electronic circuitry is packaged in a robust cast aluminum housing. The housing includes a large air cooled chamber which is separated from the electronic circuitry compartment. An air inlet is located in the rear of the cast aluminum housing. Pressurized air passes though this chamber, cooling the cast aluminum housing thus cooling the electronic circuitry. The air vents in the front of the housing via a slot in front of the lens providing air purging. Further cooling of the air can be accomplished with the use of an in-line vortex tube air cooler.

Also available, an optional sealed water coolant radiator & separate air purging facility can be provided. The copper water coolant radiator is mounted internal to the air cooled chamber. Coolant inlet and outlet fittings are provided in the rear of the cast aluminum housing. An air inlet is fitted in the front nozzle of the housing and air is vented out the front of the nozzle in front of the lens.
